Chuma Montemayor

Chuma Montemayor's work (Tamaulipas, 1977) is autobiographical and focuses on the fragility of psychological identity, tracing a line from the archetypal construction of identification with the father and mother. It is constructed within a system of signs that challenges the incoherence of the psyche and its response to events.

Artist Statement

"I work with family archives to transform personal memories into unique works of art. Using photographs, incomplete images, or significant scenes, I create a visual reinterpretation that doesn't seek to reconstruct the past, but rather to give it a new presence. Each piece is an exercise in translation: from intimate memory to a contemporary, understated, and enduring visual language. The result is a work that functions as both an emotional anchor and an artistic object, capable of inhabiting everyday spaces without losing depth or aesthetic rigor."
