Details
Tender Hearted Poke holds two things Jade Tantillo keeps in tension: affection and assertion. The title names a gentle provocation, and the work sustains that contradiction rather than resolving it—the humor-against-tenderness that runs through her figurative practice, where a vintage surface disguises sincere feeling.
Hand-drawn and painted in mixed media on museum-quality canvas, the 2024 painting sets drawn clarity against spontaneous, layered paint. The surface stays active and immediate without losing control, and the 1.5-inch bordered wrap gives the square canvas real physical presence. Softness and impact coexist in a single gesture, revealed slowly through material interaction.
Mixed media on museum-quality canvas · 2024 · 101.6 × 101.6 cm (40 × 40 in) · Unique original · Mounted on a wooden frame (1.5" bordered wrap) · Certificate of authenticity included.
