Details
Out with a Bang channels the decisive, unhesitating gesture—an ending that asserts itself rather than fading. It belongs to Jade Tantillo's figurative practice of humor held against tenderness, where the western and old-Hollywood references give way here to pure energy and the moment of impact rather than a named subject.
Hand-drawn and painted in mixed media on museum-quality canvas, the 2024 work builds action into the surface: drawn structure beneath charged, layered paint, with contrast driving the composition. The 1.5-inch bordered wrap adds sculptural depth. The painting embraces impact rather than softening it, meaning emerging through the interplay of control and release.
