Midnight Rider belongs to Jade Tantillo's ongoing dialogue with western and old-Hollywood iconography, where cowboys and vintage Americana carry more feeling than nostalgia. The rider is a familiar figure in her vocabulary — pulled from the same well as Moon River and Holly Golightly — used less as narrative than as a way to hold humor against real tenderness. Memory, affection, and emotional inheritance sit just under the surface.

Worked in hand-drawn and painted mixed media across a full 152.4 cm square, the piece wraps a 1.5-inch bordered canvas so the image carries around its edges. The vintage veneer is a disguise; the drawn line stays loose and the touch sincere, letting sentiment show without tipping into sweetness.
