Hivers et éclairs 1 — Winters and Lightning — belongs to Pénélope Barbier's seasonal cycles, in which the natural world stands in for emotional states. Made in 2025, it works a tension between opposing conditions: stillness and sudden force, calm and charge. The contrast runs through the composition, consistent with her interest in light, movement, and transition.

The painting is built in oil and natural pigments on canvas, its surface tactile and layered with nuanced tonal variation. The natural pigments add organic complexity, tying the image to elemental process and time, while subtle shifts in texture and color reward a longer look. At 100 × 75 cm it anchors a wall and keeps an atmospheric, refined quality.
