La Frutera—“the fruit seller”—turns to a familiar figure of daily life, the everyday made still and dignified. It sits squarely in Paloma Ulacia's restrained figurative practice, where the dignity of ordinary life and labor is centered and presence matters more than narrative.
Executed in acrylic on paper, the 2025 work uses controlled layering and subtle chromatic balance to convey calm strength. Negative space lets the subject breathe and directs the eye; form and color carry quiet emotion. An ordinary subject is elevated without embellishment, inviting contemplation rather than spectacle.
